Bifur

Origins

Bifur belonged to the Longbeards, but not to the royal kindred. He and his cousins Bofur and Bombur were descended from Dwarves of Moria, the old population of Khazad-dûm that had scattered after the Balrog drove Durin's Folk out, and they had no claim of blood on Thorin Oakenshield. They joined his company as followers rather than as kinsmen, and Thorin himself made the distinction when he introduced them.

The quest of Erebor

Bifur was among the second group of Dwarves at Bilbo's door, arriving with Bofur and Bombur behind Thorin, and he wore a yellow hood. He played the clarinet at the party that night. On the journey he shared the general fortunes of the company: he was sacked by the trolls, chased through the goblin tunnels, treed by the Wargs, wrapped up by the spiders of Mirkwood, imprisoned by the Elvenking, and floated to Lake-town in a barrel. At the Mountain he stood with the rest in the Battle of Five Armies and survived it.

Later life

After the victory Bifur stayed at Erebor under Dáin Ironfoot. He did not go with Balin to Moria, and when Glóin gave Frodo news of the company at Rivendell in 3018 Bifur was among those still living at the Mountain. Nothing more is told of him.

Survived the quest and lived at Erebor; still alive in T.A. 3018, and nothing further is recorded.
