Amon Rûdh

The bald hill

Amon Rûdh rose alone out of the wooded country south of Brethil and north of Nargothrond, its bare stony summit visible from far off. Its crown was covered with a red-flowered stonecrop, so that in summer it seemed to be capped with blood, and the Elves called it the Bald Hill. Beneath the summit the rock was honeycombed with caves, the ancient dwelling of the Petty-dwarves, the outcast kindred who had lived in Beleriand before the coming of the Sindar and had been hunted by them before they knew what they were. By Túrin's day only Mîm and his two sons were left.

Bar-en-Danwedh

Túrin and his outlaw band captured Mîm in the wild and he bought his life by offering them his home. On the way one of the outlaws shot his son Khîm, who died before they arrived, and Mîm named the place Bar-en-Danwedh, the House of Ransom, in bitterness. Through a winter the outlaws lived in the hill, and Beleg found Túrin there and brought the Dragon-helm of Dor-lómin. From Amon Rûdh Túrin and Beleg led the outlaws against the orcs in the land between Sirion and Narog, which became known as Dor-Cúarthol, the Land of Bow and Helm, and the hill was renamed Echad i Sedryn, the Camp of the Faithful. Word of the two captains spread, and Nargothrond and Doriath alike took heart.

But the fame drew Morgoth's attention. Orcs caught Mîm outside and he led them to the secret stair. The outlaws were slain on the summit, Beleg was left for dead, and Túrin was taken captive. Beleg followed and found Túrin bound in the camp of the orcs on the edge of Taur-nu-Fuin, where the mischance of his death took place. Mîm was left alone in Amon Rûdh, and after the fall of Nargothrond he went to live in its ruins, where Húrin killed him. The hill was drowned with all Beleriand.
