Sador

In Húrin's household

Sador was a man of the House of Hador who served Húrin in Dor-lómin as a carpenter and woodwright. He had gone to war in his youth but had seen little of it, and afterward, felling timber in the woods, he had cut his own right foot so badly with his axe that the leg withered, a mishap he judged himself harshly for. The young Túrin loved him and called him Labadal, Hopafoot, and Sador answered by telling the boy what he had learned of the Elves, of death, and of the sorrow of Men, plain talk that stayed with Túrin all his life. On his eighth birthday, when Húrin gave his son a knife of Elvish make, Túrin passed it on to Sador, who was ashamed to have so fine a gift and kept it carefully. Sador was also making a chair for Húrin's hall when the lord rode away to the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, and Húrin never sat in it.

Under the Easterlings

After the battle Sador stayed with Morwen through the hard years when the Easterlings held Dor-lómin, and when she left for Doriath he went, as the other remnants of Húrin's people did, into the service of Brodda, who had taken Húrin's lands. In the winter of F.A. 495 Túrin came back to Dor-lómin and entered Brodda's hall as a stranger, and it was old Sador, grown grey and bent, who first guessed who he was and warned him to be careful, and who told him that Morwen had gone. When Túrin killed Brodda and the hall erupted into fighting, Sador took up a weapon at his side and was struck down. Dying, he told Túrin to flee, and Túrin's last tie to the household of his childhood was cut.

Mortally wounded in the fight in Brodda's hall in the winter of F.A. 495; died urging Túrin to escape.
